Fecal Flash: Maya Hayuk

The Brooklyn based artist Maya Hayuk has an amazing eye for shape and color, her murals are somewhat FW/08 Pucci-esque (can't keep my mind off of it!) Check out more at fecalface.com

GObama!

The February 25, 2008 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, February 18), features Michelle Obama on the cover. The article, "The Real Michelle Obama," looks at how the aspiring First Lady is coping with the scrutiny, balancing work and family life, and making sure her husband is "keeping it real" on the campaign trail. Sounds like it will be an interesting read!

London Fashion Week

Eley Kishimoto and Louise Goldin got london fashion week of to great start. Eley Kishimoto's collection was full of vibrant color and sleek shapes - such ass the patent gloves and ankle boots. The loose shapes and color palette reminded me of Marc Jacobs on the less-dowdy, less-experimental side(I don't dislike MJ!). I really liked the collection as a whole and thought it was very wearable and the prints were fantastic.

The Goldin collection was a sort of, F/W 07 Balenciaga meets "sweater land". Her heavily knitted collection was inspired by monitor pixelation and sci-fi mixed with traditional patterns an d knit. Although it's only her second season showing Gouldin stepped onto the runway with a reputation fro pushing sweater dressing to a new level and experimenting the medium. I thought her collection was certainly interesting to look at and probably 10x as comfortable as those metal plated Balenciaga leggings.

The Domain

The Domain is certainly a culture that i am not familiar with in Austin, the Neiman's, betsey johnson, LV, and Burberry Boutiques are a tad pricier than the mangy racks in New Bohemia on Congress Avenue. But the Domain as well as "SoCo" are both bursting with overpriced overrated and overtrendy apartment buildings. The first thing that popped into my head as we drove down the "italian - inspired" main street of the domain was, "how much ******* crack do you have to smoke to think this is a good place to live?!", apparently none at all. The women who live in the Domain are like Pre-kid soccer moms in juicy track suits. I could rant on, but i'll stop before i hurt myself and instead bring up the lovely SCORE i made. Free People is also located in the domain and even though the store is a little to hippy for my taste i found a gorgeous dress there for less than half its original price. It's a two layered deeply detailed and sequined empire dress with tons of sequins and two little(hippy) elephants. It was marked down to $30 from $168-!!! chaching

"The Domain" certainly ranks up there with ridiculously prestigious names like "The Austonian" which is being built down town down as i type.

Rodarte

For the first time ever i am paying close attention to fashion week. I just happened to stumble upon style.com to find a new batch of collections for this Fall and as i was scrolling through outfit after outfit and saving them all in a folder- i came across Rodarte. Everything about the collection was perfect. The loosely knitted tights gave the appearance of healthy models with MEATY thighs, and juxtaposed the dainty, degas - inspired ballerina dresses.

The Christian Louboutin heels were another matter. I am dying to get my hands on a pair of these badass/kinky/hot topic/marilyn manson heels.

Whether or not we have been able to donate financially to a particular political campaign thus far, or carry out a grassroots campaign, we now have an opportunity to do something amazing with our vote that will change the course of this country, and history for the better by voting for Presidential Candidate Barack Obama.

Obama supporters have created a moving video to help start a conversation with your friends, family, coworkers, and anyone else who will be voting soon about the issues important to them in this election. Visit my.barackobama.com/YesWeCanvideo.
