Last year she started LemLem, a mostly hand-woven line of children’s clothes made in Africa, in the hope that youth will embrace her multicultural ideals. "The name means 'to bloom,'" says Liya, who on a visit to her native Ethiopia met talented weavers struggling to survive. "I wanted to help preserve their art while creating job opportunities."
