Eye on Balmain

I ran into this video at Modefeber (which, by the way, is a great blog) and remembered that i didnt post anything whatsoever on the amazing Balmain collection for S/S 09. The collection was filled with stone washed light denim, dramatic shoulders pads, studs, and embellishments. I will definately be posting more on the collection in the near future.

DIY: Louboutin for Rodarte S/S 08

After falling in love with the menacing, urchin like shoes at Rodarte, i couldn't resist (when given the opportunity) to try out the over the top look. I took several different sized spikes that i ordered about a week ago and attatched them to the tops of a pair of black Mary Jane pumps. I was extremely pleased with the outcome, i'll probably be studding and spiking up a storm in the near future - i'll keep you posted.

Uggs, I can't stand them-the joke is obviously on me!!!

Alithia Spurri - Zampetti

This twenty-three year old Italian has caught the eye of the fashion industry, and with her Central Saint Martins BA collection, she has managed to land a job working at Valentino. Alithia used foam cut outs to give the effect of paper and paired the dramatic pieces with simple pencil skirt sillhouettes. her work was inspired by both kimonos and modern buildings, both western ways of thinking and asian. "Her collection mixes elements as romantic and fragile as a flower with something so crude and long lasting as a modern building" (itsweb).

The Wonder

Its been a disappointing last few days, i've been a bit lazy and unmotivated about blogging as well as everything else in my life. I sound so dramatic! but really, and the teen vogue thing was just the cherry on top of and incredibly failure - filled weekend! though, the 250 studs i recieved in the mail today, along with this sartorialist photo made it a little more bearable.

But i DO Like Mondays

I stumbled upon this new online fashion boutique called I DON'T LIKE MODAYS, the site features comfy, graphic apparel with amazing artist as designers. A few of the designers I found particularly intriguing were a Purlieu, Mommy vs. Daddy, and Red Clay. The designs by Purlieu are slightly reminiscent of those by Cassette Playa but evoke a more whimsical feeling while the triangular and geometric designs by Red Clay remind me of my own work. Congrats to those behind the creation of I DON'T LIKE MONDAYS and best of luck to your business! I have a feeling I'll be placing an order soon...

In the Realms of the Unreal

Pardon the cardboard background... these were just some quick photographs so i have a few for my portfolio. I'll be taking better pictures soon and i'm working on my next project.

Stud and Spike Land

After obsessing over studs for a few weeks i finally placed an order for an assortment of 250 studs and spikes on ebay. They should be coming in the mail in a few days and i plan on using them for multiple projects. I want to stud practically everything in sight - my jeans, dresses, jackets, boots, though i'll probably end up using the majority of them on a fiber based art project. I'll be sure to post photos!

p.s. In the next couple days i'll be posting photos of all of my sculptures for art thus far, keep checking back

Who is this Skeletal Nymph Girl?

I was curious about who this girl is, seeing she has amazing style - or rather Christopher Kane and Nicolas Ghesquiere are amazing designers and she just happens to pull off their work.

Blanton Art Museum

The majority of my school day was spent at the Blanton museum in downtown Austin for a school field trip. Although we were required to answer specific questions about certain paintings i was able to take a few photographs of some of my favorite pieces. I am slightly jaded when it comes to the Blanton because of my frequent visits as an art student, so there are probably several other pieces that are interesting - i've just tired of looking at them.

The piece that stood out the most for me was a series of four small paintings by Dean Fleming. They were particularly inspiring because they reminded me of the work i am currently creating in AP Art. The triangular shapes presented in his work gave the impression of 3-D pyramids from a birds eye view. I have decided that i would like to utilize the color schemes present in his work as well as the careful symmetrical arrangement of the triangles to create a sculpture of my own.
