Johansson, 26, and Penn, 50, didn't attend the White House Correspondents' Dinner together; they were at the dinner on separate invites, with Johansson's brother, Hunter Johansson, being her official companion.
The hand holding took place at the Vanity Fair/Bloomberg bash later that night. The new couple was spotted leaving together around 2:30 am, according to People.
Johansson and Penn were earlier spotted together in Mexico.
