Soleil: Mccallum High School Fashion Show

I spent last night seated front row at the 4th annual Mccallum fashion show. The show was designed as a fundraiser that showcases student designer work and a hand full of outfits from local boutiques. the models were immaculately choreographed and the student work was for the most part impressive. Returning designer Geneva Hopson showed a cohesive collection with a unique color palette and interesting experimentation with jersey and top stitching. Katie Kovas stood out as well, her use of tiered tulle was vaguely reminiscent of marchesa and all her garments were flawlessly crafted. Along with returning designers, ten newcomers showed their work.

I will say that the down side of the show had to do with the short sets of boutique pieces in between each designers collection. The stores chosen to display their merchandise were, as i like to say, a little "Lauren Conrad" and lacking in the fashion - forward department. The judges put forth the same sort of "mall girl" vibe and i wasn't sure is they were to be trusted in determining a winner, alas, they did make a justified decision. I look forward to returning to the show next year and i only wish i was showing!
